The Human Resource Development Council, under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, is organising a three-day workshop as part of the work placement programme for Lower VI and pre-vocational students during the November/December 2011 school holiday.

The launching ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 9th November 2011 at 1100hrs in the Lecture Theatre of the HRDC, 4th Floor, NG Tower, Cybercity, Ebène.

The work placement programme is an initiative of the HRDC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources and employers from the public and private sectors. It allows for 2 to 3 week short-term placement of Lower VI students as well as those following courses in prevocational (PVE3) training centres.

The placement is designed to provide students with on-the-job practical work experience to enhance work-related skills and increase awareness of potential career opportunities. The main objectives are to expose students to the realities of the world of work from an early stage and help them develop employment competencies. The project is in line with the on-going reform in the education sector as spelt out in the national curriculum framework.

The project, which started in August 2007, has already catered for the placement of around 3,577 students in some 250 well known companies. The feedback received from parents, students as well as the employers has been very positive.

Objectives of the project:

-To bridge the gap between the schooling system and the world of work.

-To expose the student population to the new realities of the world of work and relate this knowledge to their normal educational activities.

-To consolidate academic learning with practical on-the-job work experience.

-To provide students with information about the potential career opportunities which exist in the different sectors of the economy.

-To allow employers to identify potential recruits for their enterprises.

-To allow the development of a formal communication network between schools/training institutions and employers. This will equally allow teachers/trainers to establish necessary contacts with employers and update themselves with industrial practice and latest tec Human Resource Development Council hnologies and facilities available.
